Final MACRA Rule Released for Comment by CMS; Major Payment Changes Coming

By now you have likely heard that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a final rule with comment period that details the major points of the new physician payment system required by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). In a nutshell, here’s what that rule does: repeals the Medicare sustainable growth rate methodology for updates to the Medicare physician fee schedule, and requires CMS to establish a new physician quality and value-based payment program – the Quality Payment Program – to start in January 2019.
