In Good Health Family Practice: A Case Study

When it opened in 2006, In Good Health Family Practice in Chattanooga, Tenn., did not have a practice management software
system and relied completely on paper billing. Office manager Laurie Davis quickly found that this didn’t meet their needs – practice staff had difficulty maintaining a good patient flow and a high number of billing errors resulted in slow reimbursement.

“Claims were not being tracked effectively and some simply got lost before the practice received payment,” Davis said. “Plus, reporting was very labor intensive and did not have the level of detail that we needed.”

I’ve worked on a lot of different softwares and not one of them is as easy. The scheduling on the practice management side is really easy, basically point-and-click- you add the patient’s information. EHR is the same, you're looking at one screen. You are not pulling up half a dozen different screens for one note.

I really like the side of it, where it will determine the E&M code that the dictation supports. That’s one of the most difficult parts of a billing job. Having that takes a lot of time off of what I have to do.

Our supervising physician does not usually see patients in the office but he can access our software from anywhere to do his chart reviews. We don’t have to print them out, it saves us paper, saves him time, he just has to log in and review the charts.

If the information was deleted an error, you can go back and restore that patient and everything is exactly the same as it was entered before. There's really nothing you can do in NueMD that will delete it permanently.

You get a one page report that tells you everything and it’s easy. It breaks it down. It shows all of the charges, all of the write offs, all of the payments- insurance versus patient payments or other payments, and gives you your cash flow ratio- that helps a lot.

I love the access and turn around time from tech support. I would either try the live help, or send a message to tech or call depending on what the problem is. With the ease of use and the price, it’s really a no brainer because it's just awesome.

I’m not kidding when I say I love this software. I’ve talked this software up quite a bit because it is. To access the information remotely is so easy. If a patient needs me in the middle of the night, I can get up and go to my home computer and still access the software.  It looks the same as it does on my desktop here. It was very quick to learn how to use the software. Very little training software whatsoever.

We recently added a nurse practitioner and it took no time at all to add her to the system and we were sending claims and everything within minutes. Less time on paperwork. The electronic claims have been phenomenal. The appointment reminders that the software can do has been great for making sure that our patients get here on time and when their supposed to be. We’ve had less missed appointments that way. It really has made us a lot more responsive to our patients.

For smaller practices such as our self, the larger software packages are out of reach financially. However, NueMD has quite a few different ways that they can bill and the price is incredible. It has made it a lot more possible for us to do more with the software than we were able to before.

"Best support and system ever!  And I'm really saying that from the heart.  It's a great system." [cont...]

If you are ever thinking about going to a new PM system, Nuesoft.  It does everything for you.

It lets me know, one, if they want to make an appointment and someone is not sure if they have been here, I can easily find that out. And if they have a balance that's about 3 or 4 years back, opening them up from any screen, especially the appointment log, you would think appointments have nothing to do with patient’s balance, it kind of lets you know a good summary of the last visit, what they owe now and what’s expected of them. I love that part of it, I can take care of both ends at once.

Once the doctor does her information and puts it in, best part, it already creates a claim for me and all I have to do is scrub it.  But I hardly ever have to really do it, it does it for me and boom I just hit transmit and I’m good. I love that part about it.

This is a business, we take care of patients and by the end of the day we need to generate revenue. It creates this awesome report; we call it the AR 30 to 120 day report. What it does, it breaks down from current to 30, 60, 90, 120, 180. Only the current to maybe 60 should be the highest amount. Now I have worked with a couple other systems, not going to drop any names, it’s so hard to find that out so Nuesoft does that, just like that. The fact that I have recommended five customers to it and they all took it, I’m going to say it is affordable. Because right now with this economy we are looking for something that does a good job at an affordable price. So the fact that five out of five took it, I’m going to say it does the job well and it's pretty affordable.

They can have access to your screen if you give it. VNC, the best ever. Now if you're like me and you really don’t want to talk, you're dealing with several patients, you don't really want to say 'OK, I'm having a problem' and stop your day. Boom, they are in your computer. They fix it for you and say, "thank you and have a nice day" and that's it. Best support system ever and I’m really saying that from the heart. It’s a great system.
